Being seen as a green business can be a big boost for your company image. Saving the environment is a very hot topic at the moment and every day it picks up more and more support from both businesses and the public so it has never been more important to try and make your company green.

But green practices don’t have to be hard or costly. Below are 10 ways that you can start making your business green today:

  1. Turn off all equipment
Turning off all of the equipment in your place of work can save you 25% in power usage every year. Ensure all computers are turned off and you could save up to another 50%.
  2. Go paperless
Move to digital invoices, send emails rather than letters, read on screen rather than printing and use fax to email instead of sending traditional faxes. All of these things will help reduce the amount of paper you use in your business considerably.
  3. Use a Duplex Printer
Most printers these days offer duplex printing as an option which means that you can print on both sides of a piece of paper. This alone could cut your paper usage down by half.
  4. Turn off dripping taps
One drop of wasted water per second adds up to 10,000 litres of wasted water per year. Fix your leaking taps and ensure that all taps are turned off after use to save big on water usage.
  5. Use recycled paper where possible
Not only is this option more environmentally friendly, it also has the added benefit of being cheaper as well.
  6. Set up conference call instead of driving to meetings
Use free call conference services like Con-Flab to set up meetings over the phone reduce your carbon footprint and the costs of travel.
  7. Keep everything in good shape
Looking after what you’ve got is a lot better for the environment and economical than constantly having to replace old for new.
  8. Switch to energy efficient appliances
Fluorescent bulbs use up to 15-20% less energy and last a lot longer than normal lighting. Switch today and save in the long run.
  9. Recycle everything you can
Obviously you can recycle things like paper and plastic but consider recycling old furniture and office equipment as well. Don’t just throw things away, see if you can either pass them on or even sell them and make some money as well as going green.
  10. Package smarter
If you have to package your product either to sell or send then work smarter. Use air filled bags rather than polystyrene chips as protection for packaging. Design your packaging to use less materials. These are big cost savers as well as being greener options.
