0800 numbers are coming back

February 5th, 2014

0800 numbers have been getting a bad rap since the rise of the mobile phone. From a landline number 0800, 0808 and 116 numbers are all free but when called from a mobile phone charges can be anywhere between 14p and 40p per minute.

Ofcom has been talking for a long time about overhauling the system around this area and they have finally confirmed that as of June 2015, “freephone will mean free” for 0800, 08 and 116 numbers. This is good news for all companies who put customer service first as you will not need to have separate numbers for your landline customers and your freephone customers in order to give your customers what they need to call in.

So what does this mean for you?

This means that the freephone number is coming back and if you want to get ahead of other businesses and be seen to be forward thinking then maybe you should think about switching over to a free phone number as soon as possible. Getting your numbers up early will help you get ahead of this and single you out amongst your customers as a company that thinks about customer service before all else.

Toward the end of this year there is going to be a nationwide campaign to educate the public about this and all call charges in the UK so beat the rush and get your 0800 numbers in now.
